Lake Garda always conjures up pictures of graceful trees waving in gentle breezes, colourful villages and friendly people, blue water of the lake lapping gently along the shore and with a back-drop of snow-capped mountains - who can resist these ingredients?

Once again we shall be based near the picturesque harbour town of Torri del Benaco with its colourful local market on Monday, our usual leisure day. We shall have a lake cruise, which will take us to Riva Del Garda, and of course visits to some of the other tantalizing lakeside towns. Our special visit this year will be to the city of Merano high in the Alto Adige in what was once the Austrian Southern Tyrol. Here you will find arcade-lined streets overlooked by houses with painted façades and decorative oriel windows.

We have also included a visit to the regional capital of Brescia, with a history of over 2000 years. When walking through the old town centre you come across buildings dating from all ages, as well as impressive squares and palaces. A market every day and the shopping is good.

For our outward and return journeys we shall be staying just outside the city of Strasbourg. Returning to your local area mid-evening.
