For this holiday we shall be visiting beautiful places in the North East of England as we continue our exploration of ‘The Stately Homes of England’, and some of their gardens.

First visit will be to Parcevall Hall Gardens in the Yorkshire Dales National Park and then to Skipton. A full day in County Durham, Raby Castle, one of the largest and most impressive of English medieval castles and then the famous Bowes Museum. This magnificent building is in the historic market town of Barnard Castle, was purpose built in the 19th century by John and Joséphine Bowes who filled the museum with their treasures. It is the 230 year-old Silver Swan that is the best-loved object in the museum, still in working order and operated at the museum every day.

Travel to Northumberland which was the birthplace of two of the most influential gardeners in history - Botanist William Turner, and Capability Brown, the landscape architect and designer of many of the great formal gardens of England. We have included a visit to Wallington Hall, where Capability was responsible for much of the landscaping. The Hall is a magnificent mansion with fine interiors and collections; huge Pre-Raphaelite paintings depicting the history of Northumbria; intriguing Cabinet of Curiosities and collection of dolls' houses.

Our outward and return journeys will be to Lincoln and Stamford. Arriving home early evening.
