Northern Italy is renowned for its lakes and especially Orta San Giulio which is classed as the most romantic of them all. Its Island of San Giulio has been described as ‘a gem of special price set into the pendant of a jewelled necklace’.

Our base for this holiday is in the delightful lakeside town of Orta San Giulio with its picturesque cream-coloured houses. After our leisure day we shall visit the regional capital of Novara, with its ancient porticoed Piazza and magnificent cathedral; Biella with its views over Monte Rosa, the second highest peak in Europe and home to many of the leading fashion houses of Italy.

Our special visit this year will be to the magnificent city of Turin - Piazza Castello, home to grand palaces such as Palazzo Reale, the royal palace of the Savoy dynasty. The Duomo, home of the Turin Shroud, and from its steps you can see the ruins of Roman Turin.

For our outward and return journeys we shall be staying just outside the city of Strasbourg. Returning to your local area mid-evening.
