Day 1: Morning departure for France, and our overnight hotel.
Day 2: Drive across Germany into Austria, arriving at our hotel late afternoon.
Day 3: Guided walk around Stumm, remainder of the day at leisure.
Day 4: On the Austrian border and just into Germany is the National Park ‘Berchtesgaden’. This magnificent scenic area of snow capped mountains and beautiful green valleys, was Hitler’s favourite holiday hide away. Special buses take us up the steep mountain road, then a lift takes us up inside the mountain to the top.
Day 5: Through the Zillertal Valley, the Gerlos pass to the spectacular Krimml waterfalls, at 1,247 feet high they are one of the most impressive and highest in Europe. You can view the entire falls from either the visitor centre, or a steep but very well maintained footpath. Afternoon in the pretty village of Mayerhofen.
Day 6: After breakfast we travel along the Inn Valley to Telfs where we climb the Fern Pass to Schwangau and the castle of King Ludwig ll - Neuschwanstein - standing on a jagged cliff 200 metres above. First opened to the public on August 1, 1886 - hardly a month after Ludwig's death. Buses and horse drawn wagons transport you to the castle.
Day 7: Today a short drive to Lake Achen. The Achensee, claimed to be one of the most beautiful lakes in the Tyrol, it is certainly the largest and deepest. Taking the Achensee cog railway from Jenbach to the terminus Seespitz. Optional lake cruise.
Day 8: Depart our hotel for return journey via the Arlberg pass into Switzerland and our overnight accommodation.
Day 9: Return to England, arriving at your local area mid-evening.
